High school hockey: Spuds won’t be back at Schwan CupMoorhead’s boys won’t be playing hockey at the Schwan Cup next year, as the Spuds will play in a new tournament in St. Louis Park, Minn., at the end of December.
The new tournament, which was put together by ex-Burnsville coach John Barger, has the likes of Bloomington Jefferson, Centennial, Maple Grove and Woodbury in the field.
Moorhead was going to be moved from the Gold Division to the Silver Division at the Schwan Cup, but Moorhead coach Dave Morinville said that didn’t affect the decision to switch.
“It made the decision tougher, because we would be playing teams we wouldn’t usually see in that division,” Morinville said. “But this new tournament is also a chance to play some different teams, and it will be a nice change for us, I think.”
