U18 hockey roundup: Germany still alive for medal round

Germany held off a late surge from the Czech Republic to score a 4-3 win at Moorhead Sports Center on Sunday.

The win kept Germany’s hopes alive for a spot in the medal round, and may have sunk the Czechs. Both teams have one game left in pool play, but the Czechs have Canada and Germany has winless Switzerland.

On Sunday, Germany took a 4-1 lead on a power-play goal from Mattias Plachta just 31 seconds into the third period for what proved to be the game-winner. The Czech Republic added two power-play goals later in the period.

It was a total team effort for the Germans, as 10 different players registered a point in the victory.
