Can jail inmates help in flood fight?

With the rising need for sandbagging and volunteers to fill sandbags, have we ever put our taxpayers’ money to use by enlisting the help of the inmates at the Cass County Jail? Either by bringing supplies to them to fill the sandbags, or to bring them to a sandbagging location to be supervised? If there are some who are able to be supervised while cleaning the litter from our highways, can they not be supervised to help with fighting the rising rivers, to help protect our cities?

There are all these able-bodied persons sitting there all day who could be doing something productive, and, in essence, something very much needed as we face the grim realization that we are in for a major flood.

So we are curious? Do they, or can they, help?
