WF explores moving district office to Fargo

West Fargo school officials are looking for a new home for next fall – and it could be in Fargo.

On Monday, board members and administrators toured five prospective district office spaces. They need to relocate once Community High School moves into the current district office next fall.

“We’re on a pretty short timeframe,” said Superintendent Dana Diesel Wallace.

Depending upon which option district officials choose, West Fargo taxpayers could see it added to a May referendum. If the district purchases office space, the vote would come before taxpayers. If the district leases space, that wouldn’t be the case.

West Fargo School Board members have expressed concern over how the public will react if the district chooses office space in Fargo, even though the space still would be within West Fargo School District boundaries.

“I think they expect the school district to be in West Fargo,” Patti Stedman said last week.

“I think we see a value in having the district office in the city of West Fargo,” Diesel Wallace said Monday. “And we have to explore the available options throughout the whole district.”

She said the district needs about 15,000 to 20,000 square feet to relocate 35 to 40 employees.

Diesel Wallace said the board could approve a bid for one of these projects in the next month. District officials hope to move by June.
