Traill County sheriff recovering from crashHILLSBORO, N.D. – Traill County Sheriff Mike Crocker is out of the hospital and recovering after being injured in a fatal accident during a snowstorm March 10.
Crocker had stopped his patrol SUV to assist a pair of stranded women on Interstate 29 when a semi ran into the back of the SUV and also struck one of the women, both of whom were walking toward Crocker’s vehicle.
The victim, Cassandra DeVaney, 20, of Watertown, S.D., was killed.
Crocker was discharged Friday from MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, sheriff’s dispatcher Stacy Ernst said. Crocker has stopped by the sheriff’s office, but it’s not known when he’ll return to work, she said.
No one was cited in the accident. North Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Jim Prochniak said the case will be forwarded to the Traill County state’s attorney for review.
