Minnesota state boys hockey tournament: Spuds shock top-seeded EdinaST. PAUL, Minn. -- Moorhead got shut out the first time it played Edina earlier this season. The Spuds were saving those goals for later.
Trent Johnson scored a pair of goals and Logan Marks stopped 30 shots as Moorhead stunned top-seeded Edina 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A boys hockey tournament on Thursday Xcel Energy Center.
Edina scored first, but a pair of second-period goals gave the Spuds a 3-1 lead going into the final stanza. The Hornets were able to get it back to 3-2, but goals from Johnson and Tyler Larson in the third wrapped up the win.
Moorhead plays the Duluth East-Cretin-Derham Hall winner in Friday's semifinals.
