Minneapolis steps up fight against prostitutionMINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The city of Minneapolis is stepping up its fight against prostitution with a freeway billboard.
Clear Channel is donating the billboard the next six months to advertise a city Web site, www.johnspics.org, that prominently displays photos of men convicted or charged with soliciting prostitution within the past six months.
City leaders say they needed a new approach to fight prostitution. It's been a particular problem along the Lake Street corridor in south Minneapolis, where police often get reports of johns soliciting prostitution from students at nearby South High School or young women waiting for the bus.
The Minneapolis city attorney's office is also planning a tougher stand by seeking convictions against anyone who solicits prostitutes, even first-time offenders.
