Unemployment pay changes aheadSeveral changes will be made to the North Dakota Unemployment Insurance program due to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, otherwise known as the stimulus bill.
- The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program has been extended through Dec. 26, 2009. Individuals who exhaust their regular benefits without becoming re-employed can apply for and potentially receive up to 20 additional weeks of benefits.
New claims for EUC will be accepted until Dec. 26, and payments can be made until May 31, 2010.
- Effective the week ending Feb. 28, individuals receiving benefits will have each weekly payment increased by $25.
This additional payment will be made only for claims filed prior to Dec. 26, 2009.
- The first $2,400 of benefits received between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2009, are not taxable. Claimants should take this into consideration when choosing whether to have taxes withheld from their benefits.
