Animated film takes top honor at Fargo Film Festival

A 22-minute animated film has won best picture and best screenplay at this year's Fargo Film Festival, organizers announced at a noon press conference today.

California filmmaker Don Hertzfeld's "I Am So Proud of You" took those prizes. The animated film is the second installment in what is to be a trilogy featuring a stick figure named Bill.

Jenny Abel and Jeff Hocket earned best director honors for "Abel Raises Cain," a documentary focused on the life of media hoaxster Alan Abel.

Best cinematography went to Ed Talavera for his work in the documentary feature "One Water." And best actor and best actress went to Adam Budd and Maya Batten-Young respectively for their work in the narrative feature film “River.”

The Fargo Film Festival opened today and will run through Saturday in the Fargo Theatre.
