Duluth drug suspect who spread feces during trial gets 53-month prison sentence

DULUTH, Minn. -- A Duluth drug suspect who spread feces during his trial returned to court for the conclusion of his case.

Vandale Amos Willis, of Chicago, was convicted in 2006 of the importation of a controlled substance across state borders, first-degree possession of cocaine with intent to sell and first-degree possession of cocaine.

During the trial he smeared his own feces on a table and chair and threw some on the floor.

Last spring, the Minnesota Court of Appeals reversed Willis' conviction over a witness issue and ruled he be given a new trial.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty Friday to a lesser charge and received a 53-month prison sentence. After time served, he will only have to serve about 50 more days.

He apologized to the court and community.
