Funding requests show Clay budget cutting will be toughMOORHEAD – Faced with possibly having to cut hundreds of thousands of dollars from the county budget, Clay County commissioners Tuesday got a taste of just how difficult that will be.
Presented with a number of requests for hires and vehicle purchases, the board agreed to most.
Chairman Jerry Waller warned, however, that steps will have to be taken soon to address cuts in state aid that may total more than $1 million.
“We have not done one item to deal with that,” Waller said.
Clay County Administrator Vijay Sethi told commissioners he will provide them with specific recommendations for budget cuts the first week of March.
Commission decisions this morning included:
- Filling a half-time 4-H coordinator position for $32,450
- Purchasing two 2009 Chevy Impalas for the county's fleet and one new Impala to be used by Minnesota Department of Corrections juvenile probation officers. Total cost: $49,695.
- Purchasing a 2009 Chevy extended cab pickup for $24,479 that is to be used by the county's maintenance foreman. Taking into account the $8,000 trade-in value of the pickup currently used ,the cost of the new vehicle will be $16,479.
