Grand Forks sets record low; Fargo hits 28 below

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Arctic air brought a record low temperature of 37 degrees below zero to the Grand Forks International Airport this morning, the National Weather Service said.

That beat the previous record of 31 below set in 1979.

Fargo’s Hector International Airport reported 28 degrees below zero at 3 a.m. – bitterly cold, but not cold enough to beat the record of 37 below set in 1916.

The temperature at the Fargo airport had climbed to 24 below by 6 a.m. but dropped back down to 27 below by 7 a.m., weather service meteorologist Pete Speicher said.
