Montana man hospitalized in stabbing at Moorhead I-94 rest area

A Roman, Mont., man remains hospitalized at Innovis Medical Center in Fargo after being attacked at the Moorhead I-94 rest area earlier this afternoon. The victim, Dale Morigeau, 51, underwent surgery for multiple stab wounds, but hospital officials are not releasing details on his condition.

Morigeau was allegedly stabbed by Harmit Bhangu, 32, Chestermere, Alberta. Police responded to a 911 call from a witness at the rest area at 1:37 p.m. Police happened to be in the vicinity and were able to respond while the stabbing was still in progress. Witnesses had secured themselves in another room as the two police officers repeatedly ordered Bhangu to surrender his weapon. Bhangu finally dropped the knife, but had to be subdued with a Taser.

Second-degree felony assault charges are expected to be brought against Bhangu, who is in custody at the Clay County Jail, according to a Moorhead Police Department news release.

Police investigators were still interviewing Bhangu as of Sunday evening and would not reveal whether the two men knew each other.

The Moorhead Rest Area will be closed until about 10 p.m. tonight.
