Women's basketball: NDSU holds off Western IllinoisFARGO – The roster devil threw another blow at the North Dakota State women’s basketball team. This time, guard Nicole Vigil went down with an apparent knee injury Saturday against Western Illinois.
The Bison, down to seven players, withstood that thought and held off the Westerwinds 52-46 at the Bison Sports Arena. NDSU remained tied atop The Summit League standings at 4-1 heading into Monday’s game against IUPUI.
The Bison may have to do it with seven players. And when guard Inger Hodgson spent a few seconds in apparent ankle pain late in the game, all looked chaotic for the Bison.
Hodgson walked it off. And the Bison survived a chaotic last minute that saw three Bison turnovers and two missed shots and one turnover by WIU.
Two free throws by NDSU center Jill Zaruba made it 50-45 with 23 seconds left. After the Westerwinds’ Nicole Myers made one of two free throws, it took WIU nine seconds to foul Hodgson and her two free throws with 5 seconds left iced it.
