Weekend Watch: Greensky Bluegrass

Like many bands that have a banjo and dobro in the van, Greensky Bluegrass plays music about long journeys, items made out of wood and trains. Just once, it’d be nice to hear a bluegrass song about microchips. But shedding the lyrical shackles of the ramshackle is not how this five-piece from Michigan stands out. Most young interpreters of mountain music rev it up. Greensky goes the other way with a nowhere-to-be gait it calls the Kalamazoo Shuffle. The effect is pleasant, like tumbling down a hill while wrapped in pillows. Local pickers Johnson Family Band open the 9 p.m. show at The Aquarium. Cover is $8.
