Fire damages corn dryer at Kragnes Farmers Elevator east of DilworthUPDATED 5:35 p.m.
DIILWORTH – A fire Wednesday morning heavily damaged a corn dryer at the Kragnes Farmers Elevator Co. east of here.
The blaze, which was extinguished by the Glyndon Fire Department, was confined to the dryer, which is separate from grain storage at the elevator, said Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist.
The fire was reported about 9:38 a.m., according to Red River Regional Dispatch.
Bergquist said fire units had cleared from the scene shortly after noon.
Jeff Triebold, the elevator’s general manager, said about 1,000 bushels of corn likely was lost and the dryer is probably totaled.
He said it was not known when the dryer will be fixed or replaced.
Triebold said it’s also unknown what may have sparked the fire.
The elevator is located at the intersection of Minnesota Highways 10 and 336.
