Gamboa files another appeal of life termMichael Gamboa, sentenced to two life prison terms for running a drug ring out of his Fargo auto-detailing shop, filed papers challenging an opinion in his case.
Gamboa, acting as his own attorney, argues that he wasn’t actually in possession of a machine gun, a finding that triggered a 30-year enhancement to his sentence.
Gamboa also argued that he received ineffective assistance by counsel in his 2003 trial in U.S. District Court in Fargo. Prosecutors said his ring sold more than 300 pounds of methamphetamine, with a street value of up to $18 million.
