Jobless eligible for tuition offerFERGUS FALLS, Minn. – Jobless Minnesotans may be eligible to receive free tuition at Minnesota State Community and Technical College here.
President Ann Valentine said some classes beginning next week are not full, so the campus is making the openings available for people who need job retraining or educational opportunities.
Minnesota residents receiving unemployment benefits are eligible to receive free tuition, which normally would be $140.85 per credit.
Most classes are three to four credits, so the savings would be about $420 to $560 per class.
Students will have to pay for fees, which vary by program, textbooks and any other materials needed for the class.
The program is limited to the Fergus Falls campus for courses that have openings. Students can take up to 18 credits. Online coursework is not available.
The openings are in 60 different classes ranging from accounting, business, math, psychology, chemistry and more.
To register, prospective students must attend a registration session from 8 a.m. to noon Friday or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
People should bring proof that they are receiving unemployment benefits and a copy of their high school transcript.
