ND Guard members returning from IraqFORT LEWIS, Wash. – Members of the North Dakota National Guard’s 191st Military Police Company started arriving here Monday as part of the demobilization process after serving a year in Iraq.
An initial group arrived at Fort Lewis on Monday night with the remainder of the unit expected to arrive today from Fort Dix, N.J., a news release stated.
The 191st is based in Fargo with detachments in Mayville and Bismarck with 187 soldiers deployed to Iraq in January 2008. The company performed military police and security operations and also trained Iraqi police during its service, the release stated.
Sixteen company soldiers decided to extend their tour of duty from anywhere between four and 13 months. The returning 191st soldiers are expected back in North Dakota within a week.
