Major winter storm on way

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Another dangerous storm is bearing down on the Northern Plains, the second threatening winter storm in as many weekends, the National Weather Service reported Thursday.

A winter storm watch has been issued for the entire Red River Valley region from late tonight through late Saturday night.

The storm has the potential to produce

6 or more inches of snowfall, strong northerly winds, gusts to more than 30 mph Saturday and Saturday night, and produce near-blizzard conditions, according to the weather service.

Wind chills could reach 40 below. Conditions are expected to improve slowly Sunday as the system moves south out of the Dakotas.
