Moorhead City Council: EDA levy amended to $283KThe Moorhead City Council amended the 2009 Economic Development Authority’s levy from $333,000 to $283,000 Monday night.
The amendment was brought forth by Councilwoman Diane Wray Williams after discussion of how the levy might affect struggling taxpayers.
Dan Bohmer and Greg Lemke voted against the amendment.
The levy reflects a 23 percent increase from the 2008 EDA levy, which was set at $230,000.
The EDA was hoping for a tax collection of $333,000, or so not to exceed 0.0185 percent of taxable market value in the city, in accordance with state statute.
The money would go toward several items, including $15,000 for a business outreach position for the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation, which will be matched by a grant from the GFMEDC.
The city was allowed to lower the EDA’s levy, but not raise it.
The budget for the EDA, however, must be determined by that political body.
Any actions to reduce the levy will be faced by the EDA board, said City Manager Michael Redlinger.
