West Fargo City Commission approves agreement to build 18-hole golf courseWEST FARGO – The City Commission here voted this evening 3-1 to approve an agreement between the city and housing developers to build an 18-hole golf course.
WestPort Beach Development Corp. officials are donating land it owns in south West Fargo to the city for the course construction, according to the agreement.
The agreement calls for the city and WestPort Beach to agree on several phases of the course construction including the architect of choice and the concept plan.
WestPort Beach is also planning to build housing around the golf course.
The commission decided on the agreement after nearly an hour of discussion. Commissioner Mike Thorstad voted against the agreement, saying he was concerned about reoccurring costs the city may incur as a result of the construction.
Mayor Rich Mattern said the decision is a big one, adding he questioned the amount of property tax revenue the city could incur from prospective property owners who move into the housing built by WestPort Beach.
