Weber to stay off the air until after election

Jake “Dewey” Weber, a radio-show host on KRWK 101.9 FM and a candidate for the Cass County Commission, will stay off-air until the day after the election, he said Tuesday.

On Friday, Weber e-mailed his District 5 opponent, incumbent Robyn Sorum, to let her know that his job as a radio-show host for Rock 102 allows her to request equal time on the station because of federal broadcasting rules.

Sorum informed Weber on Monday that she would not ask for reciprocal time as long as Weber continued to avoid discussing the election during his show, but Weber said after talking with station management Tuesday, they decided he should stay off the microphone at Rock 102 until Nov. 5. He will still work there during his on-air absence.

“I didn’t want anybody to think we’re getting away with something,” Weber said.
