ND Dem governor candidate unveils health planBISMARCK, N.D. - Democratic governor candidate Tim Mathern says the state needs to make a stronger effort to make health insurance more widely available.
The Fargo state senator is holding news conferences in Bismarck and Fargo to discuss his health care agenda.
Mathern says he'll advocate plans to allow families to buy health insurance at discounted rates, based on their ability to pay.
He says the state should expand a health insurance program that offers coverage to children of low-income families who aren't eligible for Medicaid.
And Mathern says he'll push a proposal for a low-interest revolving loan program for rural North Dakota hospitals. He says state support for rural hospitals is needed to make sure they stay in business.
