Tom Szymanski to Join AM1100

Tom "Too Tall" Szymanski, the former KVLY-TV weatherman who was one of the Fargo-Moorhead area's most recognizable media figures, will be returning to the market as a contributing meteorologist for the AM 1100 "The Flag" and FM 106.9 radio stations, which are operated by Scott Hennen.

Szymanski, who currently works as a meteorologist for KXMB-TV in Bismarck, will begin contributing to the radio stations this Monday, talking about sports and, of course, sharing his unique weather reports that can include rhymes or quirky references like calling "22" a "double deuce." Szymanski is still listed as a meteorologist for KXMB on the Bismarck station's Web site.

Szymanski was fired from KVLY last fall. He had worked at the station for 15 years. After his dismissal he said the station's Dallas-based owner, Hoak Media Corp., called for his exit. Szymanski's departure sparked an outcry of support from those who watched him deliver the weather - often in animated ways.

After parting ways with KVLY, Szymanski continued to issue local radio weather reports through KFGO 790 AM. But that relationship eventually ended after he moved to Bismarck.
