West Fargo-based DMI, a wind tower manufacturer, plans major expansion

WEST FARGO - DMI Industries here is adding 50 to 75 employees at its local plant in a $20 million expansion expected to increase wind tower production by 40 percent.

The company is also expanding its Tulsa, Okla., plant capacity by 100 percent.

Once the expansions are complete, DMI will be the largest wind tower manufacturer in North America, a news release stated.

There are currently 350 employees at the West Fargo site. DMI Industries, an Otter Tail Corp. subsidiary, employs more than 700 people between its West Fargo, Tusla, Okla,, and Ft. Erie, Ontario locations.

The growth is a response to increased customer demand, said Chuck Hoge, Otter Tail Corp. manufacturing platform vice president.

“The whole industry is going really strong,” Hoge said.

The West Fargo site expansion, the first phase of a strategic development plan for the facility, will streamline the production process through improvements in layout and productivity. A new building will be constructed adjacent to the one now at 420 Main Ave, Hoge said.
