Baby delivered by emergency C-section after car crash in critical condition; mother in satisfactory conditionMAHNOMEN, Minn. — A newborn baby is in critical condition at Fargo’s MeritCare Hospital after he was delivered by emergency C-section Saturday following a two-vehicle crash.
Mahnomen County authorities responded to the accident on Minnesota Highway 200, just east of Minnesota Highway 59 about 7:48 p.m. A westbound vehicle driven by Amy Aguilar, 20, had been hit by an eastbound vehicle driven by a 16-year-old female, according to a news release.
Aguilar, who was nine months pregnant, was taken by ambulance to the Mahnomen Hospital and later to St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes, Minn. The Mahnomen woman underwent an emergency C-section and gave birth to a boy, Jordan James Aguilar, who was airlifted to Fargo’s MeritCare Hospital, the release said.
Amy Aguilar was later transported to MeritCare where she was listed in satisfactory condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Her son was originally listed in serious condition, according to the news release. He was listed in critical condition this morning, the spokeswoman said.
The 16-year-old female, also of Mahnomen, was not injured in the crash. Her name was not released.
The accident is still under investigation, the release said.
