Fargo hockey arena seeks tax break from city

Developers of the Urban Plains Center, a hockey arena planned in south Fargo, are negotiating with the city on its special assessments, according to a report from WDAY AM radio.

City Administrator Pat Zavoral told the radio station that the property's owner - Brandt Holdings - wants the arena site to be exempt from all future special assessments and half of all current special assessments.

Zavoral says the assessments would be transferred to surrounding properties, which are also owned by Brandt.

Zavoral says the city attorney is currently reviewing Brandt's proposal. The City Commission must give final approval.

WDAY AM radio and The Forum newspaper are owned by Forum Communications Co.
