40-day abortion protest begins

A nonstop 40-day prayer vigil began this morning outside the Red River Women’s Clinic in downtown Fargo.

Organizers of the “40 Days for Life” campaign hope to have at least two people praying outside North Dakota’s only abortion facility 24 hours a day until Nov. 4.

Similar 40-day campaigns are going on in 89 cities across the United States.

About three dozen people gathered outside the clinic this morning for a prayer vigil to begin the effort.

“Your witness will be noticed by God. Your efforts will save lives,” said the Rev. Charles LaCroix, chaplain at Fargo’s Shanley High School.

Tammi Kromenaker, clinic director, said she didn’t anticipate the 40-day vigil would affect the clinic’s operations.

“I’m hopeful the people conducting the campaign will stay to their word and remain peaceful,” she said.
