Man charged with kidnapping and sexual assault

A 19-year-old Glyndon man was charged today with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

Alberto Aurelio Betancourt Jr. was arrested over the weekend and held in the Clay County Jail following the incident, which occurred Friday night, according to a complaint filed in Clay County District Court.

The victim told police she and some friends crawled through the window of a friend’s home to listen to music. She said they used the window so they wouldn’t wake her friend’s parents.

Betancourt entered the home the same way, according to the complaint.

Eventually, everyone left through the window except the victim and Betancourt, leaving the two alone in a bedroom, the complaint said.

The girl told police that when she tried to leave through the window, Betancourt grabbed her and began kissing her and touching her over her clothing.

The girl said when she tried to yell for help Betancourt put his hand over her mouth and told her to shut up.

The victim told friends and a nurse who examined her that she had been raped during the assault, the court complaint said.
