Motion to reopen talks failsA motion to ask West Fargo teachers if they want to reopen contract talks failed on a 3-3 School Board vote.
Susan Bailey made the motion Monday to see if fellow board members wanted to reach a settlement before a state fact-finding commission hears arguments in the impasse over contract talks.
Board members Karen Nitzkorski and Nancy Kruse joined Bailey in voting for the measure. But Angela Korsmo, Tom Gentzkow and Troy Aswege voted against it.
Superintendent Dana Diesel Wallace said she tried to contact a West Fargo Education Association representative about reopening talks but did not get a reply.
The fact-finding commission will take testimony at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in the commons of Cheney Middle School. The meeting is open to the public.
The board also voted 6-0 to allow administrators to negotiate the sale of a portable classroom to the Northwood (N.D.) School District.
The district is seeking about $20,000 for the classroom, which was built in 2001 for $49,600.
Northwood is seeking portable classrooms to relocate all of its elementary-age children from Portland, N.D., to Hatton, N.D., which is about 15 miles closer to Northwood. Children from the Northwood area have been taught in Hatton and Portland since an Aug. 26 tornado heavily damaged the Northwood school.
