Searchers find another body at collapse siteMINNEAPOLIS – Searchers on Sunday found the body of one of the people missing in the Mississippi River bridge collapse, bringing the confirmed death toll to 12.
The remains were identified as Scott Sathers, 30, of Maple Grove.
The discovery leaves one person on the list of those missing in the bridge collapse: construction worker Greg Jolstad, 45, of Mora.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said water teams recovered human remains and a vehicle at about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Bad weather on Saturday hampered recovery efforts at the site of the Interstate 35W bridge collapse, forcing divers from the water in the morning and at several points throughout the day. Even with steady rains continuing to fall on the metro area on Sunday, Navy divers were able to resume the search.
Recovery crews have been using heavy equipment to pull debris from the Mississippi River and open new holes in the wreckage to allow divers to explore areas that have previously been unreachable.
Sathers worked in enrollment services at Capella University and was on his way home from work, using his usual route, when the bridge plunged into the river on Aug. 1.
Capella University President Mike Offerman has described him as “a valued friend.”
